Our Town, Our Music

Storyteller, creative, educator, Grace Lim, UW Oshkosh instructor and founder of Humans of Oshkosh, along with UWO students, spent the 2023-2024 season interviewing members of the orchestra. Her and her team asked the musicians how music has shaped their lives and why an orchestra made up of community musicians matters. With the guidance of professional photographers, UWO alumni Michael Cooney, Kathy Bechard, and Steve Schultz, Grace and her team took photos of the musicians, documenting their membership in the inaugural season. The photos were staged outside the concert hall, in the community. The purpose was to show that OSO musicians are our teachers, neighbors, and friends. As Grace said of the project, "Music connects us on so many levels... [In my Interdisciplinary Studies class at UWO, titled] "Telling Stories for Fun, Profit and World Peace"...[we] focused on the power of music and community, how music impacts us individually and as a society." Below is some documentation of this project.
